  • CBLP-A is a competency-based instruction program with competency assessment provided through performance-based testing based on the learning objectives of a Chesapeake Bay regionwide professional certification program, the Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP) Certification Program.

  • The CBLP-A certificate is also a pathway to and meets the prequalifications for the Level 1 CBLP certification, while also preparing students for entry-level jobs in sustainable landscape management and/or stormwater best management practices (BMPs) maintenance and providing professional mentors and/or career days for the enrolled students.

  • At least one CBLP-A instructor with the school implementing the program must be a Level 1-certified CBLP. The Level 1 CBLP certification training is recognized and approved for continuing education by several other professional certifications including: Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania certified horticulturalists, Virginia DCR-certified urban nutrient management planners and DEQ-certified stormwater and erosion and sediment control inspectors and planners, Association of Professional Landscape Designers, International Society of Aboriculture ISA certification, and American Society of Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System.

  • CBLP-A candidates must complete the following performance testing to obtain the associate certificate:

    • Pay $50 application fee (or the fee may be paid by partner organization)

    • Attend one-day (eight-hour) training complete in-class training quiz (25 points)

    • Complete two training day field exercises (50 points)

    • Attend at least two "lunch and learn" sessions during the summer and complete a post-class quiz for each. (25 points each)

    • Successfully complete a field-based skills assessment by the end of the summer (100 points)

    • (Total points possible: 200. Passing score to obtain CBLP-A is 150 points.)
