Lighting should include selecting and using appropriate light meters and interpreting readings to determine aperture values when using the following techniques:
- Split—when main light illuminates one side of subject (half-lit)
- Rembrandt—half turned subjects, shadow on the short side
- Loop—main light above the subject up to 60 degrees
- Butterfly (or Paramount)—butterfly shape of the shadow under the nose
- Broad—light source on the side visible to the camera
- Short—light source on the opposite side from the camera
Process/Skill Questions:
- How can facial structure and pose affect the lighting pattern?
- How can lighting pattern be used to enhance appearance?
- When should each lighting pattern be used?
- How are lighting ratios adjusted?
