Course Description:
This course introduces students to the science of natural resources and the many careers that protect and manage our natural resources and the environment. Through hands‑on activities and outdoor investigations, students explore forests, wildlife, water, soils, and ecosystems while learning how human actions and conservation practices shape the natural world. Students gain practical skills used in fields such as forestry, wildlife management, environmental science, and outdoor recreation. Using real tools and modern technologies, they will learn how professionals monitor ecosystems, solve environmental challenges, and support sustainable resource use. This course provides a strong foundation for students interested in environmental careers or simply eager to understand and care for the world around them. Contextual instruction and student participation in co-curricular career and technical student organization (CTSO) activities will develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students' career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations.
