Application should include
pre-service
- reading and following manufacturer instructions for the application of a chemical relaxer
in-service
- basing the scalp as needed
- applying relaxer to the hair shaft using the proper application (virgin/retouch)
- cross-checking for coverage/saturation
- performing a periodic strand test
- rinsing relaxer from the hair, using the appropriate water temperature, flowing away from the scalp
- smoothing the relaxer into the subsections in the direction of hair growth and cuticle with moderate tension
post-service
- shampooing hair with a neutralizing shampoo as directed by the manufacturer
- reconditioning the hair
- towel drying the hair
- reexamining the scalp
- styling as desired by client.
