Explanation should include
- defining systems thinking as the ability to understand how different components of a system interact and influence one another and how these interactions create intended or unintended outcomes
- identifying interdependent components (i.e., people, processes, policies, resources, environments) to reveal relationships and leverage points
- describing how understanding their interrelationships improves planning by anticipating consequences and improving coordination
- giving examples where systems thinking leads to more effective strategies, reduced errors, and/or innovative solutions.
Process/Skill Questions:
- Who are the key stakeholders within the system?
- When do system interactions most significantly impact planning?
- How does systems thinking help leaders identify root causes, anticipate unintended consequences, and design solutions?
