Preparation should include choosing a proper scale and may include placing the following items on the drawing:

• Edge of the roof
• All peaks and valleys
• Exterior and bearing walls, shown as hidden lines
• Protrusions through the roof (e.g., skylight, tubular skylight, chimney)
• Solar panels, if applicable
• Slope of each roof section
• Location of gutters and downspouts
• Notes and labels to include appropriate symbols
