Course Description:
Veterinary Science I introduces students to the foundational knowledge and hands‑on skills used in modern veterinary practices. Students learn how to safely handle and care for common companion animals while exploring essential topics such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, infection control, medical terminology, and clinical examination techniques. The course also emphasizes strong communication skills, professional workplace etiquette, and the day‑to‑day operations of a veterinary facility, including recordkeeping, client interaction, and office procedures. Students will investigate a wide range of careers in veterinary medicine and animal care. Supervised opportunities to work with live animals may be provided to enhance learning and build confidence. Contextual instruction and student participation in co-curricular career and technical student organization (CTSO) activities will develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students' career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations.
