Health and Agriculture Teams Begin New CBE Frameworks

Dental Assistant, Veterinary Assistant, and Small Animal Care curriculum frameworks are being developed in Health Occupations Education under the direction of program specialist Jo Ann Wakelyn, and in Agricultural Education, under the direction of program specialist Dr. Glenn Anderson, at the Virginia Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education Services.

Teacher writing teams met at the VVCRC last month to begin developing comptency-based (CBE) frameworks for the three program areas and will reconvene in early 1998 for follow-up sessions. The veterinary assistant and small animal care teams are working cooperatively in all areas where the two programs have subject matter in common.

Plans call for drafts of the dental and veterinary frame-works to be ready in time for distribution at the 1998 HOSA conference and of the small animal care, for distribution at the 1998 VVATA conference.

The work of the three teacher teams is based on the results of technical panels conducted in April of this year by Robin Brownhill, Anita Cruikshank, and Mary Grattan, VVCRC writer/editors.
