Virginia Wins VIM Award

At Risk Students in Work and Family Studies, produced by the Virginia Department of Education and edited by VVCRC technology specialist Cindy Hoffman, has earned a national Award of Excellence.

The Vocational Instructional Materials Section of the New and Related Services Division, American Vocational Association, recognized the guide at the AVA competition in December 1996.

The document's development was led by Sharron Glasscock, Work and Family Studies specialist at the VDOE, with contributions from teachers statewide. Dr. Judy W. Wood, of Virginia Commonwealth University, served as consultant.

The 1995 guide suggests strategies for delivering Work and Family Studies content to students at risk of failing or dropping out, but can be adapted for any vocational program.
