Local Curriculum

CTE Resource Center presenters tailor presentations to meet local needs. A typical inservice on writing local curriculum might include the following activities:

  • Participants gain an overview of the Federal and state initiatives that form the foundation for competency-based Career and Technical Education curriculum in Virginia.
  • Participants review the steps in the Virginia CTE curriculum development process and determine how to adapt that process to meet local needs.
  • Participants analyze each component of the basic state curriculum framework document to become familiar with content and formatting issues involved with curriculum writing.
  • As time allows, participants begin work on their curriculum to ensure that they are able to apply the Virginia CBE process to their own situation and are comfortable working independently.
  • If requested, CTE Resource Center presenters are quite willing to offer follow-up services such as facilitation of a second working session or reviews of the writing team's work.

Equipment requirements vary according to presentation.
