Agricultural Education for Students with Disabilities 8053
Suggested Grade Levels: 9 or 10 or 11 or 12 (36 weeks)
Approximately one-half of this course is devoted to areas of horticulture, including growing and reproducing plants, and investigating the landscaping and floriculture industries. However, as this course is meant to be customized by the instructor, a wide variety of areas is represented, including woodworking; agricultural science, mechanics, tools, and machinery; animal care; ecology and environmental management; forestry; parks and natural resource management; and business operations.
Note: For teachers creating IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) for their students, it is recommended that instruction focus on one or more areas in the 8053 list, just as the horticulture tasks have been enhanced by drawing heavily from Horticultural Sciences 8034. Therefore, hyperlinks are provided within the duty area titles to connect instructors with the other respective areas of focus and the courses from which they were derived. These links to specialized courses will help instructors create comprehensive and challenging IEPs reflective of each student’s ability.
For additional information, contact the Agricultural Education Service, Virginia Department of Education.
The career cluster will be determined by other courses taken in conjunction with this course to build a concentration sequence.
