Virginia's CTE curriculum is being migrated to the Canvas platform and will be available for teacher use in the 2022–2023 school year.

The course covers Canvas course management through user preferences, file management, and course settings. Participants will customize course homepages and use the rich content editor to enhance assignments, discussions, and quizzes. Additional resources provided will meet the needs of all levels of learner within this self-paced course.

Curriculum Posted for 2021–2022 School Year

Virginia’s CTE curriculum frameworks, student competency records (SCR), course sequence lists, and credentialing information are available for the coming school year here and through the Verso tab above. Frameworks are again provided in PDF, and the SCRs are available as Word and Excel files. CTE Resource Center staff have begun the process of moving our resources into Canvas, and next year’s (2022–2023) curriculum will be provided through that platform. Look for additional information and training opportunities in the coming months.

Creating Excellence Awards Announced

The Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Community College System honored 10 exemplary Career and Technical Education programs and partnerships during the 2021 Creating Excellence Awards program. Watch the video.

Are You Ready for Career Success?

The Virginia Department of Education has transformed the popular R U Ready? magazine into a collection of videos. Career Success Stars features students in the 16 Career Clusters who completed CTE courses in Virginia high schools and have found successful careers in their fields.

Report on Virginia’s Maritime Industry Released

Virginia is a leader in the maritime industry, with the greatest number and highest concentration of private shipbuilding and repair jobs in the United States. Virginia is also the largest seafood producer on the East Coast and the third largest in the nation. This report by the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia illuminates Virginia’s complex maritime industry by breaking it down into its component sectors and subsectors. Work-Based Learning Resources Available

During each CTE professional association summer institute, the Virginia Department of Education Work-Based Learning (WBL) Specialists focused on disseminating a consistent message, “Implementing High-Quality Work-Based Learning.” Highlights of the session provided participants with tools necessary to answer the following questions: What is High-Quality WBL? Why is High-Quality WBL important? and How can we implement High-Quality WBL? To assist WBL Coordinators/Teachers with implementing High-Quality WBL, all program area sessions, an overview WBL video, and a modifiable powerpoint presentation and script that may be used throughout the school year are available. Access recordings of each tailored program area session and the general WBL video, along with the WBL Calendar and Calculator Template for recording WBL wages and hours.

State CTE Conferences Go Virtual

The Virginia Department of Education, the Virginia Association of Career and Technical Administrators, the Southern Regional Education Board, and the Virginia Board of Nursing offered online workshops for CTE educators this summer in lieu of conferences.
